Archie Lee Councilman, 89, of Bear Creek died Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Coventry House of Siler City.
Mr. Councilman was born in Chatham County on October 31, 1928 the son of George C. and Clatie (Phillips) Councilman. He was the owner/operator of Councilman Farms. Archie was an active member of Tyson's Creek Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and chairman of the Sanctuary Building Committee. Archie and Helen enjoyed fishing and spending time at their home at Holden Beach.
Archie was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alvin and Grady Councilman; sisters, Lucille Kearns, Bronna Mae Whitener, Edith Puckett, Estelle Hackney and Irene Bullard.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years: Helen (Brady) Councilman; one son: Harold Councilman and wife, Judy of Bear Creek; grandchildren, Lee Councilman and wife, Jennifer of Creedmoor, Brian Councilman and wife, Katie of Graham; great-grandchildren, Michael, Ashely, Austin and Emilie Councilman.
The family will receive friends Saturday, November 11, 2017 from 12:30 - 2:00 PM at Tyson's Creek Baptist Church, 10891 Siler City-Glendon Road, Bear Creek and other times at the family home. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 PM at Tyson's Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Wachs and Rev. Scott Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
