Clayton Harris, age 93, Troy passed away Monday, November 6, 2017 at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro, NC.
Clayton was born August 28, 1924 to the late Willie Alexander and Lillie Hunsucker Harris. He was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church, Mt. Gilead, NC and served as a Deacon, Music Director, Sunday School Superintendent, and Sunday School Teacher for several years.
He was retired from Belk Department Store. After retirement he also worked part-time at Better Burger, Troy, NC. He was a member of The Senior Citizens where he enjoyed being with people and participating in all activities and programs. Clayton was known as a kind and gentle soul with a great sense of humor and was loved by all who knew him.
He was a WWII Veteran serving in the US Army from 1944-1946. He was a radar operator in China and was one of the last units to evacuate before they were invaded by Red China.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Lottie Mabry, Sallie Moore, and Vera Owens.
He is survived by his wife of seventy- two years, Blanche Dennis Harris of the home; one daughter, Carol Frazier and husband Tom Frazier of Troy, NC; two brothers, Melvin Harris, Albemarle, NC and Rayvon Harris, Greensboro, NC; one sister, Coline Gibson of Troy, NC; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 8, 2017, from 6:00 -8:00 PM at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Street, Troy, NC. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Liberty Hill Baptist Church, Rt. 2, Mt. Gilead NC with Rev. Dave Wensil and Rev. John Brown officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery.
