Oberia Presnell Collins, 98, peacefully passed away April 19, 2017 at Clapps Nursing Home in Asheboro, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents, Baxter and Annie Presnell and was the oldest of their seven children. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Juanita Yow of Asheboro. She is survived by her two sons, Larry Dunn (Mary Brittain) of Asheboro and Clint Collins (Ann) of Greensboro; sisters, Geneva Hiatt of Asheboro, Ruth Allen of Greensboro; brothers, Jesse Lee Presnell of Asheboro, Burgess Presnell of Burlington and Dempsey Presnell (Betty) of Asheboro.
She retired from Acme-McCrary after thirty years of service. God blessed her with extremely good health for another thirty two years after retirement. She lived a simple life and during this time was able to do the things she enjoyed most. She loved working in her flower beds, vegetable gardening, lap quilting, and serving her church. She actively supported many church ministries throughout her lifetime at New Hope United Methodist Church, helping in the food area, nursery, meals on wheels, lap quilting for raffles. Even though she enjoyed just being home, she did travel several times to California to visit her son Larry and enjoyed seeing another part of the country. She was an incredible person who loved God, family, and friends. She was affectionately called "Mom" by many people who knew and loved her.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation to her home caregiver of three years, Mrs. Patsy Hunt for the excellent and loving care she provided that enabled Oberia to remain in her home through age 97. Patsy also continued with her at Clapps in a companion/sitter role. Special thanks to the staff at Clapps for all their dedicated and loving care.
A family visitation will be held Saturday, April 22, 2017 from 1:30-2:30 pm in the fellowship hall at New Hope United Methodist Church, 4215 New Hope Church Road, Asheboro, NC 27205.
